Ahead of their trip to the Riverside Stadium to face Premier League newcomers Middlesbrough on Sunday, Chelsea has been handed a huge boost by the fitness update of striker Diego Costa.
Costa was forced to watch Spain’s 2-2 draw with England from the sidelines after a groin injury which he picked while training with the National squad last week. Initially, it was feared that the Spaniard wouldn’t be available for selection this Sunday.
However, as suggested by Costa himself, the Premier League top scorer is fit and ready to further his form against the Premier League newcomers.
Last season, Costa was one of many players who was criticized by the fans for going invisible in one of the worst title defenses in the League. His bad form also contributed to the sack of Jose Mourinho, just months after the Portuguese led Chelsea to the Premier League title.
Consequently, Costa was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the last summer. However, if his recent form is anything to go by, the Spaniard is one of the hottest properties in the Premier League.
Having scored 9 goals in the Premier League this season, Costa has once again acquired the hot form which led Chelsea to Premier League title two seasons ago.
While the devilish nature is still there – as epitomized by his on-pitch gestures towards manager Antonio Conte, the Spaniard is proving critics wrong by his theatrics in front of goal.
Looking at the opponents of Chelsea on Sunday and it could be said with certainty that they would need a fully fit Costa to come out of this game with three points.
Earlier this season, Middlesbrough has frustrated the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City to come away with a point. Moreover, both those fixtures were away from the Riverside Stadium.
However, with this fixture being played in front of their own fans, the Premier League newcomers would be pumped up to take something away from this fixture.
